All three workshops in this series are self-contained.

Raku is a firing technique that originated in 16th Century Japan. It is a low temperature firing which has been adopted and modified by artists around the world. The process involves taking the glowing hot pottery from the kiln after a brief firing and smoking it in a container lined with palm fronds and leaves, creating crackled glazes and colorful metallic effects.

Raku offers a great experience. It’s a fun process and you don’t even need to make your own work. While you are encouraged to bring your own bisqueware, you may purchase a piece at The Pottery. You can select from a group of simple forms, vases, and tea bowls.

You’ll also learn about glazes, metallic, and colorful. Lynn has experience designing glazes and makes her glazes available for your use during the workshop.

You will get to experience the firing process from beginning to end, learn to glaze your pieces, and see them being fired and smoked. No previous clay experience necessary.

Note:  If you wish to be directly involved in the firing, be sure to wear all natural fabrics and closed toe shoes for your safety.

After the firing, you will be able to take your completed pieces home.

We suggest you bring a snack or lunch.

Questions? Please contact Lynn directly at [email protected], call or text her at 360-758-2815.

Min: 4. Max: 7 participants
