Spotlight on Landscapes with Jose Luis Nuñez

Members $100

Non-Members $110

Landscapes are usually the most common subjects to paint. Beauty abounds ready to be discovered almost anywhere and at any time. Join Jose for this intensive three-hour workshop, learn the most important concepts of landscape painting, and walk out with a painting of your own.

Main concepts to be reviewed:

    • Visualization and Planning: composition, artistic groupings, focal point, depth, values, abstract patterns, balance of weights
    • Color and Style: color mood, the temperature of the painting, found and lost, color harmony, impasto, details
    • Gallery Readiness: final work presentation

Painting: These concepts will be reviewed while replicating one of Jose’s own pieces, or working from a photo of your choice.

Materials needed: You can choose to paint using your favorite materials: oils, acrylics, color pencils, watercolors, gouache, etc. Bring all materials needed for the medium of your choice: brushes, painting support, cleaning gear, etc. Suggested painting size not to exceed 11” x 14″.

Min: 4 Max: 9

Jose Luis Nuñez is an artistic painter that enjoys color and the vibrations of light and shade. Color means life and radiant plenitude in his paintings. He usually paints with oils because they allow him to use thick layers of paint and to leave traces of brush strokes.
California and the American Southwest deeply resonate in his soul and, therefore, have been a source of inspiration for his landscape paintings.
Born in Mexico City, José Luis began painting at the age of thirteen. He studied Art and Philosophy in Spain, Italy and Mexico. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Philosophy. He did graduate studies in Painting and Metal Engraving at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (San Carlos Art Academy).

His paintings have been acquired by collectors of many countries. He has had more than 50 exhibits, including individual and group shows in the United States, Brazil, Argentina, Costa Rica, and Mexico which makes him truly an international artist. Jose Luis is also an avid plein air painter that has taken part in the Grand Canyon Celebration of Art since 2020 and in other plein air events, like the Borrego Art Institute 2022 Plein Air Invitational.

Jose Luis currently resides in San Diego, CA.
