DESCRIPTION:  Oil Painting Techniques: Desert Plein Air Workshop with Pat Kelly    LOCATION:  Studio West & Borrego Art Institute Art Park Botanical Gardens  587 Palm Canyon Drive\, suite 208  Borrego Springs\, CA    DATE & TIME:   Friday & Saturday\, 9:30 AM–1 PM  February 19–20\, 2027 (2 Days\, 7 total hours of instruction)    PRICE:  Members: $ 140  Non-Members: $160    DESCRIPTION:  A two-day plein air workshop in Borrego Springs will focus on capturing the unique lighting and color of our local desert. We will begin in the classroom with a demo on color and aerial perspective followed by a morning plein air session in the Art Park. The workshop will conclude with an in-person critique of student work.    This is a collaborative class with the Athenaeum in La Jolla\, CA    MATERIALS NEEDED:  Portable easel; Compose It 6-in-1 Grid; several 6” x 8” or 8” x 10” canvas boards; half-dozen brushes; Robert Simmons natural bristle flat #40F in sizes 2\,3\, 4\, and 6. A small\, pointed sable brush for detail. One small steel palette knife; Gamsol odorless solvent\, small cup\, or container\, 12” x 16” wooden palette or Gray Matters Palette; paper towels\, Sun hat\, old shirt. Oil Paint: Alizarin Crimson\, Cadmium Red Medium\,* Cadmium Yellow Medium\,* Cadmium Lemon\,* Phthalo Blue\, Ultramarine Blue\, Titanium White (large tube)\, Cadmium Orange.* * Buy only pure cadmium colors\, not hues.   REGISTRATION:  Registration for this class will be through the Athenaeum; if you are a BAI member you will be able to use your BAI discount to register.
