DESCRIPTION:
Landmarks of Art (LOA) presents contemporary artworks that respond to the land ranging from traditional mediums to New Genre. There will be a reception for artwork displayed in Studio West followed by lectures and discussions regarding ecology and the issues that arise while making field-based artwork in the age of the Anthropocene.
BIOS:
Yoshimi Hayashi is a multi-disciplinary, site-specific artist and professor of art at MiraCosta College. He moved from Japan at an early age and now considers California his home. He has a Master of Fine Art and a Master of Science degree in Psychology.
Hayashi has also expanded his creative process to integrate societal issues with environmental concerns. He created a non-profit art organization, Landmarks of Art (LOA), which focuses on non-traditional avenues for exhibitions with an emphasis on incorporating land/place-based projects. The LOA aesthetic research station is a 157 Acre (63 hectares) of land in the Anza Borrego Desert of California. The focus of the land is to allow for experimentation of creative ideas on a large scale. Artists and thinkers are also invited to residencies on the land to formulate ideas, create work and have open dialogue. LOA has hosted artists from Germany, Australia and all over the United States.
Allison Beaudry, is a mixed-media and performance artist, who lives and works in San Diego, Ca. She is a co-founder of Landmarks of Art, a non-profit arts organization based in Borrego Springs, Ca. that focuses on fostering field-based research and art projects that respond to social and ecological issues. Allison Beaudry’s works encompass mixed media, sculpture, video and place-based durational performance. Her performances are often physically draining, absurdly jarring, and humorous. By viewing absurdism through a feminist lens, she uses humor as a strategy to open a conversation regarding sensitive topics. Allison received her BA in sculpture from San Diego State University and her MFA from the Vermont College of Fine Arts. Her recent exhibitions include a solo show at the Borrego Springs West Gallery and the Koumi Machi Kougen Museum in Nagano, Japan, as well as Hermes Artes Visuais, Sao Paulo, Brazil, and NOVA Art Space in Weimar, Germany.
